I.  Jam Gadang
is a clocktower and major landmark of the city of Bukit Tinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia. It is located in the centre of the city, near the main market, Pasar Atas, and is a tourist attraction.
File:2011jamgadang1.jpgThe structure was built in 1926 during the Dutch colonial era, as a gift from the Queen to city's controleur. It was designed by architects Yazin and Sutan Gigi Ameh.
Originally a rooster figure was placed on the apex, but it was changed into a Jinja-like ornament during the Japanese occupation of Indonesia. Following Indonesian independence, it was reshaped to its present form resembling traditional Minangkabau roofs (see Rumah gadang). It is said to have cost 3,000 Guilder.
Each clock face has a diameter of 80 centimeters. Its base is 13 metres long and 4 metres wide, and it stands 26 metres tall.
One unique feature of the clock is that it uses "IIII" for the number 4 instead of the traditional Roman number "IV". Based on a local story, the figure four made of four vertical lines represents the four persons who died while constructing the building.
The laying of the Jam Gadang cornerstone was done by the 6-year-old son of Rook Maker, the city secretary of Bukittinggi at the time.
Given its iconic appearance, the structure is a frequent object of local souvenirs. It is printed on apparel, painted, used as a sculpting model, and so forth. As of January 2008, it cost 50,000 rupiahs (around US $5) to enter the tower.
II.  Benteng Fort de Kock
Fortress Fort de Kock is the legacy of the colonial Dutch fort that stood on the Mount Jirek in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, which was built in 1825oleh Captain Bauer and used as a stronghold of the Dutch in the face of Padri War led by the Tuanku Imam Bonjol.
The fort was originally named Fort de Kock is Sterrenschans, but later changed to Fort de Kock after the name of Baron Hendrick Merkus de Kock, who was then serving as Commander de Roepoen and Deputy Governor General of Netherlands Indies Government.
The entrance to Fort de Kock, who is also an old name of Bukittinggi, is through Jl. Yos Sudarso, with the entrance located at GPS: -0.301370, 100.367880, with ample parking under shady trees. After paying fees of Rp 5,000 (Rp. 8000 holiday),
Berkas:Memorial Fort de Kock.jpg       Fortress Fort de Kock is also well able to enter the Wildlife Park Cultural Kinantan, free of charge anymore. If you want to exercise this morning in the area, visitors only need to pay Rp 500 only. For commercial photo shoot in this area will be charged Rp 75.000/hours, and video capture Rp 100.000/hours.
Fortress Fort de Kock, in the form of a 20 m high building whitewashed equipped with cannons at the four corners. Gated iron staircase railings seemed encircled Fort de Kock leading to the peak.
